Lanark and District Pipe Band played him down the High Street to St Nicholas Church for noon.

And on Monday night, a beautiful warm sunny evening brought thousands of townspeople and visitors out for the Perambulation of Lanark’s Marches.

“It was one of the biggest ever,” said Lanimer secretary Leslie Reid who was handing out birks at Woodend.

And the good weather encouraged people to stay out at Lanark Cross after the dancing display to see Stephen Pillans formally installed as the Royal Burgh’s new Standard Bearar.
