Late Call winsa top prize foryoung Fraser

Carluke boy Fraser Jorgensen has scooped a top prize in the South Lanarkshire Photography annual competition.

Fraser, now eight, won the South Lanarkshire at Night category in the junior section was a boy with his picture ‘Late Call’, which he shot when he was only seven years old.

“It was quite difficult to get the shot set up and get the settings on the camera just right to capture the light I wanted but I finally got the picture I wanted after a few attempts,” said Fraser. a pupils at Crawforddyke Primary.

And his mum Heather added: “I am really proud of him.

“He submitted five pictures and in addition to this first, two of his shots were Highly Commended and two were Commended,

“I submitted seven pictures and had just one Commended so I think it is fair to say Fraser wins!”

More than 200 photographs were submitted this year with categories covering landscapes, people, animals, flowers and the special category of ‘South Lanarkshire at Night’, all bringing life in South Lanarkshire into focus.

Popular themes included the Strathaven Balloon Festival but David Woodhams from Lanark was highly commended for his more surprising shot, an eyeball to eyeball close up of a Dung Fly.

Organised by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, the competition is open to all in South Lanarkshire and entries have come in from all around the area.

The exhibition of the pictures, in the Cadzow Gallery in Chatelherault opened on Friday and runs until Sunday March 6.
