Late night at Shawlands nightspot?

The Shed — currently open until 2am — has made a plea to Glasgow City Council to bring its licence into line with city centre and westend clubs
Owner Michele Pagliocca said: “Over the years, the volume of people visiting our club has dwindled as potential customers increasingly choose to visit bars and clubs in either the city centre or venues in the westend, as both have 3am licences.

Hide Ad“This extra hour offered by our competitors has had a direct impact on business — it’s no longer viable to open our doors four nights a week, and instead we can only open Fridays and Saturdays.”
The nightclub has carried out a survey of southsiders living nearby, with 88 per cent of those asked saying they would visit The Shed more often with a 3am licence.
Brian McMahon, chair of Shawlands Business Association, has backed the application, commenting that the group “strongly supports” The Shed.
He said: “Its venue, culturally and socially, continues to play an extremely important role in the southside community.

Hide Ad“In terms of future developments, we are currently working in partnership with Glasgow City Council and Shawlands and Strathbungo Community Council on the redevelopment of Shawlands’ main square.
“Our aim is to create a vibrant cultural quarter and The Shed — with its many attributes — will be vital to the development and promotion of the area.”
