Latest on new Cumbernauld post office plans

The potential site for Cumbernauld’s new crown post office will itself undergo a makeover if the plan is approved.

Last week we revealed that the Home Essential premises in Teviot Walk had been earmarked for this purpose.

This would see a downstairs move for the existing stand-alone branch in Forth Walk.

We can reveal that Home Essentials will be transformed into a newsagent and convenience store with adjacent post office counteres nearby, if the plan goes ahead

Meanwhile it emerged that MP Gregg McClymont wants a stand-alone branch to stay.

He said: “Following the packed public meeting I organised last year for locals to air their concerns about the future of our town’s Crown Post Office, I think it’s fair to say that following last year’s meeting, the plan to relocate the Post Office inside a shop in a franchise deal got a thumbs down

“I am concerned that this new proposal has not taken those concerns into account,’’ added Mr McClymont who wants to hear from locals on this matter.

However, the post office insists that the new branch will be fully moderninsed, have an area for private transactions and trade for an additional 11 hours per week.

The consultation process is now launched and anyone who wishes to contribute can do so by filling in an online questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk, by FREEPOST Your Comments to Post Office Limited, via email to [email protected] via the Customer Helpline on 08457 22 33 44. Customers are asked to quote branch code 014855.
