Law shopkeeper speaks of terrifying knife ordeal

Nadeem Akhtar (34), who runs Nads Store in Station Road, Law, was all set to take his wife Fareha out to celebrate her birthday when the robber struck just before 7pm last Wednesday evening.

The previous week, the couple had celebrated the birth of their fourth child, Anisah.

Brave Nadeem spoke to the Gazette this week about his terrifying ordeal.

He said: “I was listening to the radio when the man came in wearing a scarf over his face.

“He walked in with a large butcher’s knife and all he said was “Give me some money”.

“The knife was only six to eight inches away from my body.

“I gave him a box of cash and he walked out of the shop and turned right; I then called the police and told them the direction he had walked off in.”

Nadeem only bought the shop in September when he and his family moved to the village from Newcastle.

Since the attack, he has been overwhelmed by the messages of support he has received from Law locals, disgusted by the attack.

However, he understandably remains angry and upset about the incident.
