Leadhills is ready to celebrate today

Today, Saturday, it will be the turn of Jenny Paul to be crowned Leadhills Gala Queen.

The fun begins at 11.30am with the judging of the fancy dress, and Jenny will be crowned around 12.30pm.

There is a packed programme of events for the day, including archery, a craft fair, and a performance by Leadhills Silver Band. There is a children’s entertainer, and giant inflatables.

To tie in with the gala, Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway are having a diesel weekend - your chance to find out more about the trains.

And, on a more sombre note, in Lanark the annual Smyllum Orphanage memorial service takes place in St Mary’s Cemetery at 1pm.
