The volunteers at Leadhills and Wanlockhead Railway are stepping in to run rail services because the B797 is closed for resurfacing.

During the first week of that work, when the bus will be unable to get to Wanlockhead, the Leadhills and Wanlockhead railway will be putting on a replacement train service.

“This is to help connect the communities during this disruption,” explained David Winpenny.

“The only shop is in Leadhillls and the local doctor has cancelled his surgery in Wanlockhead for this week. There are also people in Leadhills who work at the Mining Museum in Wanlockhead so we will be providing a commuter service for these people.”

The service will meet the bus service from Lanark during this week.

“This service will be unique in that it is usually the other way round, with bus replacements for trains,” said David.

The timetable is available on the railway’s website, at www.leadhillsrailway.co.uk

The closure of the B797, which could be for two weeks, follows earlier roadworks in the Crawfordjohn area.
