This year’s Lenzie Community Council Gala theme is “Schools Old and New,” recognising the closure of Lenzie Primary and Lenzie Moss Schools and the opening of the new Lenzie Meadow School.

The Gala Queen’s procession starts at Lenzie Station at 12.10p.m. on Saturday, June 4. Millersneuk Dental Practice’s Andrew Meek will be driving the Gala Queen in his 1913 Darracq vintage car to the Gala field, accompanied by Sheena Fraser in her open top mini car with the Maids of Honour. The parade will be escorted by the Boys Brigade Pipe Band and the Dance Schools, Beavers and Cubs, Rainbows and the Brownies who will walk the short distance to the Lenzie Rugby Club. Everyone is invited to join in the parade.

A huge range of family fun is being arranged, with fairground rides and children’s races, and a special presentation by Dance Republic and demonstrations by the Jump Rope Academy, Rosebank and Stewart Dance Groups, Kirkintilloch Youth Band, Boys Brigade Band, the Army Cadet Force, the Scouts, Woodhead Gymnastics and much more. There will be food ‘a plenty’ with a Marie Curie tea tent, and stalls with Fairtrade goods, burgers, pakora, ice-creams and cakes for all the family.

If you would like to have a stall at the gala, it’s not too late and you can apply to Emma at [email protected].

Speaking ahead of the crowning ceremony Lenzie Community Council Convenor, Tony Miles said: “This year’s Gala will be bigger and better than any year before thanks to the tremendous support from our business sponsors.

“Without the support of the local businesses it would impossible to stage this annual event which brings the Community together, provides a day of fun and laughter and gives a focus to those local groups that work hard to give our children all those wonderful childhood experiences.

“Special thanks go to EGIP for their financial sponsorship and help and assistance with flyers and posters; to Coda; Arnold Clark; Fleming Buildings; Pacitti Jones; Tower Nursery: Lenzie Osteopaths; Billington’s; Browns Opticians; Lenzie Garage Services; Memory Lane Flowers, Avril Haffron and not least the Rugby Club for providing the venue.”
