Lenzie scoop annual Fairtrade Campaign Award

The Lenzie Fairtrade Group is celebrating after received the runner-up award for the Most Creative Fairtrade Breakfast held during Fairtrade Fortnight.

These annual Fairtrade Campaign Awards were judged by the Fairtrade Foundation and the Lenzie Group was recognised for its commitment to raising awareness about the principles and values of Fairtrade in the local community during the two week event.

Liz Ibbotson from the Lenzie Fairtrade Group said: “Once again Lenzie has shown how we punch above our weight in the Fairtrade community. Lenzie was recently chosen to be a case study for smaller towns to encourage them to aim for Fairtrade Town status and here we are once again being given an award for the creativity of one of our events and the significant outreach it achieved. However, this award is not really for the Fairtrade Group but for all those who drew, painted, advised, baked, cleaned up and went along to admire the high standard of creativity which emanated from our schools and nurseries. We are so proud of everyone who was involved and thank them all for their efforts!”

Adam Gardner, Communities Campaigns Manager at the Fairtrade Foundation, added: “Lenzie has made an exceptional commitment to farmers and workers around the globe who are continuously working hard to bring us the products we love. All too often these communities are not receiving a fair price for their work, but campaigners from Lenzie have shown their dedication to this cause. It’s so important for communities to get involved and let their voice be heard. Thanks to the ongoing support of campaigners and businesses around the UK, Fairtrade today reaches millions of vulnerable farmers and workers in over 70 countries. We are constantly inspired and surprised by the overwhelming support the UK public shows Fairtrade. Thank you and congratulations to Lenzie for making an incredible contribution to the Fairtrade movement.”
