Les shines on stage at Take That concert

Les Graham, who works at Glasgow University, still doesn’t quite know how her singing and dancing skills appeared on the radar of the famous pop trio.

But after a phone call two weeks ago she found herself auditioning for Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen’s world tour last Sunday and then appearing at their live concerts every night last week.

Les expects that having successfully taken part in the opening and closing ceremony at the Commonwealth Games last year she is now on a database of potential cast members.

She said: ‘‘I was not a fan before but now I am a big fan.

‘‘We were up in scaffolding dressed all in black with various props - like cagoules and umbrellas - and at one point we get rained on and have to sing and dance throughout.

‘‘We sing along to every song during the concert.

‘‘We never got to meet the band themselves, but Gary Barlow winked at us on the way past!’’

She added: ‘‘It’s great. It’s a one off and to come out and see the thousands of people all excited and we’re part of it.’’

Last year Les and her son Jonathan, a piper, were the only mother and son team taking part in the opening ceremony.

From that led to a call to be part of a zombie film for the BBC, which was filmed near Livingston, and saw Les transformed with prosthetics.

‘‘For that audition I just had to prove I could walk like a zombie! The prosthetics were amazing, it was a great experience.’’

Les is now deciding whether to take Take That up on their offer of being a cast member at Birmingham and the O2 arena in London.
