Lesmahagow man Jamie Wallace urges action on Priory ruins

Jamie Wallace is concerned that the Priory ruins, which date back to 1140, will be lostforever unless urgent action is taken.
Previous attempts to highlight the rapid decline of the site have failed but Jamie (33) is hoping that the relevant authorites will take action this time around.

He said: “In an ideal world I would like to see Historic Scotland look after the site.
“It would be great if it was recognised as an historical monument and was properly looked after. The Priory is probably the main reason the village of Lesmahagow came into existence.
“It is part of the heritage of the village but there is no signage to tell people where it is and the area is a bit of a mess.
“The council has done some landscaping but I would like to see a lot more being done.”
