The stunning finalist, Romy McCahill (21), who was one of the lucky ones to be handpicked from hundreds of applicants, will face judges at the glitzy final in Glasgow’s Radisson Blu hotel.

Romy, who was crowned Miss Earth Scotland last year, has been using her exposure in the contest to raise awareness of a charity which is close to her heart - Alzheimer Scotland.

She held a successful movie night and DJ event last Sunday (August 23) in Milngavie’s Meet Me @ The Corner cafe/music venue which raised £1,500 for the charity.

Romy chose this as her main charity because her gran, who is in her eighties, suffers from Alzheimers.

She said: “My gran comes to stay with us sometimes so I have seen first hand how Alzheimer’s has affected her and the impact it has had on our family.

“It’s very difficult for a family to see a loved one lose their memory, it’s extremely upsetting.

“Apart from the memory loss, those affected with Alzheimers often refuse to eat and they get weaker as a result.

“I think people forget sometimes that this is a disease, it’s not just a normal part of growing old.

“It is possible to find effective treatments and I hope one day we could even find a cure.”

The winner of Miss Scotland will represent Scotland at the 65th Miss World competition in Sanya, China, in December.

A spokeswoman for Catwalk Academy, who organise the competition, said: “Our competition will search to find an intelligent, attractive young woman with the character and composure required to represent her country at home and abroad.”

The Scottish final of the competition is being held at 8.30pm tonight (August 27) at Radisson Blu hotel.

Romy, who is the daughter of Sharon McCahill who is the owner of Bearsden business Art @ The Grange, flew to the Philippines last November to compete with almost 100 other candidates for the title of Miss Earth.

She made it to the semi-final round but unfortunately didn’t win the title.
