Local youngsters rate Glasgow's leading tourism attractions

City Sightseeing Glasgow’s hop-on hop-off tour serves many of the city’s key attractions including Glasgow City Chambers, University of Glasgow, The Cydeside Distillery, Riverside Museum, Glasgow Science Centre, Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, People’s Palace and Glasgow Cathedral.

Working with Langside Primary – who just completed a project on Glasgow, its history and culture – the tour company asked the school’s P4 pupils to compile a shortlist of must-see city attractions.

Using the bus route, the young people choose the Clydeside Distillery, Riverside Museum and People’s Palace.

To pick the winning attraction the pupils visited and rated each venue based on its fun factor, cool and interesting facts and friendliness. A clapometer was used to score and determine the winner.

The Clydeside Distillery scooped the top title with the People’s Palace a close second followed by the Riverside Museum.

Damon Blackmore, manager at City Sightseeing Glasgow said: “Tourism is a major part of our city’s economy and we are proud to play our role in showing people Glasgow, its history and many cultural and iconic attractions.

“We are always looking for ways to improve our offering and whilst the shortlist was a bit of fun for all involved it was also a sense check to ensure our tour and attractions served are of interest to a younger market.

“Thankfully, going by the cheers and claps on the day of judging we’re pleased this is still very much the case.”

Paul Meehan, headteacher at Langside Primary said: “We would like to thank the team at City Sightseeing Glasgow for once again supporting our Glasgow project, the tour of the city is a fun and educational way to complete the topic. Our P4 judges did an excellent job shortlisting the best places to visit in Glasgow and I for one will be visiting all three.

“I’m sure the whole experience will no doubt make the project a memorable one for both pupils and teachers. I look forward to seeing their recommendations in print and online.”

Bridgeen Mullen, visitor centre manager at The Clydeside Distillery said: “Glasgow is full of many wonderful attractions, so we are both flattered and delighted to not only be shortlisted but chosen as the top attraction on the City Sightseeing tour by the pupils at Langside Primary.

“Our distillery may be relatively new however our industry’s story and our location is very much an important part of Glasgow’s history and culture. No matter how many school visits we host we are almost blown away with the level of interest and engagement from our younger visitors.”

“City Sightseeing Glasgow offers visitors a fantastic and easy way to discover our city and its great to see the importance placed in not only delivering our city’s story, but the on-going commitment to community engagement too.”

The pupil’s shortlist will be publicised in City Sightseeing Glasgow’s winter leaflet and images of the young people taken on the tour will be used in a host of digital campaigns over the coming months.
