One hundred members of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society’s (RSCDS) Glasgow branch welcomed Lorraine and her friend Maxine Jones to Milngavie on September 11 as one of the many stop-offs in their 24 hour time span.

The celebrities received a resounding reception when they arrived with their hosts clapping and foot tapping to the invigorating Ian Muir Sound.

This was followed by a demonstration by the Alba Dolphins (junior members of the Scottish Country Dance club in Glasgow) of a new dance called ‘Kelly’s Kaper’, created especially for the appeal by John Wilkinson (former Chairman of the RSCDS).

Lorraine and Maxine then joined in, with varying degrees of success and Lorraine doubled up with laughter at times, as the whole ensemble danced it for the first time.

Lorraine said: “This was the fifth stop on my 24 hour challenge and in each town we were greeted by so many wonderful fundraisers hosting events in their communities to help raise funds for the appeal.

“I walked into a room full of friendly faces at Milngavie Town Hall and it was an absolute pleasure to have a dance with members of the community.

“I felt honoured to have a dance dedicated to me and the campaign, and to see it danced so expertly by such a talented group of young people.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along, and the branch secretary Margaret Sanders and event convener Flora Frame for their efforts in arranging it.

“Every penny raised goes to support children living in poverty right here in Scotland and the bubbly atmosphere at this fantastic event definitely helped me to get me through the next 18 hours of the challenge.”

The evening raised £220 for the appeal and the challenge was sponsored by Optical Express.
