The village, which is designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, has only one road in and out of it which makes the logistics of the works extremely difficult.

They will take place over a seven week period, from April 1 to May 16.

The first three weeks will be mostly preparation work, using temporary traffic signals or convoy working to allow access to residential and commercial properties.

Night-time closures of the road will be required during this period, although access will be maintained for emergency services.

The final four weeks of the works will require New Lanark Road to be closed.
