Make sure you get a vote in the EU Referendum

If you are already registered to vote you will have received a poll card by Wednesday, May 25 which will give details of where you will be able to cast your vote.

The deadline for registering to vote in the EU Referendum is Tuesday, June 7 - however, would-be voters are being urged to act now to ensure they don’t miss out. You can now register online - visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote for more information.

You can also apply to vote by post until 5pm, Wednesday, June 8. If you would like to vote by post you must already be registered, or have submitted your application to register.

Voters must be over 18 years of age to be eligible to vote in the EU Referendum. Go to aboutmyvote.co.uk to check if you are eligible to vote.

East Dunbartonshire Council Chief Executive Gerry Cornes is the Counting Officer the area.

He said: “We want to make sure that no-one misses out on their right to vote in the forthcoming EU Referendum just because they aren’t registered.

“Time is running out so if you are in any doubt as to whether you are registered or not please take action now. Bear in mind that applications received after Tuesday, June 7 cannot be processed in time for the EU Referendum. Remember if you’re going on holiday you can still vote. You could appoint a proxy who can vote on your behalf or opt for a postal vote but you need to allow for processing time. The last issue of postal votes will be with you between 14 – 16 June but you need to be registered in the first instance.”
