Man assaulted - police appeal for assistance

Around 5pm a 65-year-old man got off a No 4 First Bus on Crow Road near to Broomhill Drive, Broomhill, Glasgow, when he was punched to the face and then threatened by another male who had also been on the bus. He sustained bruising to his face but did not require hospital treatment.

The suspect is described as male, white, 35 to 40 years of age, has greasy black hair, bad skin, and was wearing small round black/tinted glasses. He had a Glaswegian accent.

Constable Russell Hendry, Partick Police Office, is leading the investigation. He said: “The suspect had been on the bus and had already been warned by the driver about his behaviour but was still being abusive to other passengers. He and the injured man exchanged words and as the bus came to the stop in Broomhill, both men got off. At this point the suspect punched the man in the face in an unprovoked assault and threatened further violence but was thwarted by passengers who had got off the bus to intervene. The suspect then ran off towards Broomhill Drive.

“The injured man managed to get home and police were called.

“We are looking to speak to any of the passengers on the bus so that we can trace this man as soon as possible.

“I would also ask any other passengers who had been on the bus and witnessed the suspect’s behaviour during his journey to call police. The bus had travelled along Highburgh Road, down Clarence Drive and then into Crow Road.

“Any information can be passed to the Community Policing Team at Partick Police Office via 101 or in confidence to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
