Man cut from car in accident near Lanark

Firefighters cut a flap in a car roof to free a man after an accident in Cleghorn, near Lanark, on Tuesday evening.

Two crews from Lanark Fire Station were sent to Muirfoot Terrace in Cleghorn in response to a report of the accident by ambulance control at 6:55pm.

Only one car was involved in the accident.

Watch Manager Craig Langford, the incident commander, said: “The car was on its side in the roadway with the driver still inside.

“It was clear that the most effective way to safely free him was to create a flap in the roof, so after stabilising the vehicle our crews deployed hydraulic cutting equipment to do this.”

He continued: “We were working alongside our ambulance colleagues and on their guidance firefighters extricated him from the car.”

After being safely released the motorist was moved to a waiting ambulance and taken to Wishaw General Hospital.
