Man dies in house blaze in Milngavie and woman and child taken to hospital

A man has died and two people were injured in a house fire in Milngavie in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 45-year-old man was pulled from the house in Catter Gardens, Milngavie, by firefighters, along with a woman and boy – believed to be his partner and son – but he was pronounced dead soon after.

The fire started at their semi-detached property just before 2am on Sunday morning.

The woman and boy are recovering in hospital - their injuries have been described as non life threatening.

Emergency services arrived at the scene with minutes of of a 999 call and the three were taken to hospital while firefighters put out the flames.

The cause is unknown and expert fire investigators are examining the property.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received a 999 call reporting a fire at a property in Catter Gardens, Milngavie, around 1.55am and three fire engines were immediately sent in response.

“Firefighters reached the scene within five minutes and they were confronted with an already well-developed fire.

“With reports people were inside the property teams in breathing apparatus were sent in to conduct a search and rescue operation and to tackle the fire.

“The firefighters removed a man, a woman and a boy from the building and passed them to the care of the ambulance service but sadly it was later confirmed that the man did not survive.

“The fire was extinguished using several high pressure jets.

“Specialist officers from the Fire Investigation Unit attended the scene and will work with police to establish the circumstances surrounding the fire.”
