Man seriously injured in Lanark assault

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault in Lanark High Street in the early hours of Friday morning - or for the attacker himself to come forward,

A 25-year-old man is in “very serious” condition in the Southern General Hospital with a fractured skull after being assaulted,

He was walking with a female friend when he was attacked,

Police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The suspect is said to be in his mid-20s and about 5ft 10in tall, of slim build and with dark hair.

Sgt James Quinn, of Police Scotland, said the attack appeared to have been unprovoked.

“I would appeal directly to the suspect to do the correct thing and come to police before the police come for you,” he said.

“I am also appealing to local residents who may have seen or heard something to get in touch.”
