Man who fell from hotel window near Glasgow Central station dies

A man who fell from a hotel window onto a busy Glasgow street has died in hospital, police have confirmed.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Gordon Street in the city centre after 11am on Friday and both entrances to the street were taped off.

It is understood the man was naked and fell from a third or fourth floor window above Glasgow Central Station.

He was in contact with police immediately before he fell.

Dozens of police and paramedics in attendance. Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) confirmed the man later died in hospital.

The PIRC will now investigate the police handling of the incident.

A spokeswoman for the PIRC said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner to carry out an investigation into police contact with a man who died following an incident in Gordon Street, Glasgow, on Friday, November 11.

“A report on the commissioner’s findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course.”
