Organised by SL Leisure and Culture, the event is open to all residents and visitors, and an exhibition of the work produced is currently being held at Chatelherault Country Park.
Margaret, secretary of Motherwell Photographic Society, took first place in the People category with her effort ‘Man in Hood’.
She said: “I am delighted to have won this award, I took the photo when we attended an historical re-enactment.
“It is great to see photographers of all ages coming together at this awards ceremony. It is a fantastic hobby and with modern digital cameras it is more accessible than ever.
“Motherwell Photographic Society is always happy to welcome new members regardless of their experience.”
Councillor Hamish Stewart, chairman of SL leisure and culture, said: “The quality and variety of images in the exhibition is fantastic. Great photography lets us look at the world through another person’s eyes, and with the rules for this competition meaning all the shots are local to South Lanarkshire, it really is the world on our doorstep.”
The exhibition is being held until March 6. For info on how to enter next year, call 01698 426213 or e-mail
