Mearns blackout

SOME 200 homes in Newton Mearns were left without power after an electricity cable was damaged.

The homes, around Broomcroft Road, were disconnected from the grid around 9am on Tuesday morning.

Scottish Power workers tackled the case, but the homes remained without electricity until 10.30pm that night.

A spokeswoman apologised to customers for any inconvenience.

Scottish Power have, however, managed to repair a previous fault ahead of schedule.

Homes were left without power for around 40 minutes as power worker constructed a mini power station in the Govan area to cope.

Scottish Power has offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for starting the blaze.

Guy Jefferson, operations director at Scottish Power Energy Networks, said: “We have completed a complex and difficult project in two weeks which, in normal circumstances, would have taken eight.”
