Mears creating forty new jobs

The company helps people who require extra support to continue living in familiar surroundings and in comfort at home.

Mears supports people of all ages, including those with complex conditions such as dementia or a learning disability, however due to an ageing population and rapidly growing demand for care at home services it is struggling to cope.

Services are provided on contract through North Lanarkshire Council and also on a private basis to those who want to augment the care they receive through the local authority, or have other requirements for support.

The recruitment campaign will see a total of 100 jobs created across North Lanarkshire.

Arlene McHugh, service manager for Mears in Motherwell and Bellshill, said: “The increasing number of people requiring support means demand for home care services is growing at an extraordinary rate, with more and more families realising this is a viable and affordable alternative to residential care or nursing homes.

“A little bit of help can go a long way towards maintaining an independent lifestyle, and this is exactly where we fit in. Our employees support people with some of the everyday tasks we all take for granted, such as bathing, domestic chores and cooking meals.

“We’re delighted to be expanding to meet growing demand for these services, and would be happy to receive applications from people in Motherwell and Bellshill who think they might have the right skills to work for us.”

Stephanie McGee from Motherwell joined Mears as a support worker in May 2014.

She said: “I love the fact this role is so rewarding, I’ve built up a great rapport with the people I support and the fact I’m helping them to have a better quality of life is fantastic.

“I’d definitely recommend this job to anyone who has a caring nature and wants to help people.”
