Meet a queen of Tartan Noir at the Avenue

There's been a murder (to coin a phrase) ... and the killer has decided to strike on Hogmanay.

Best-selling author Alex Gray (pictured) is in Newton Mearns on Tuesday for a signing session for her new crime thriller, Still Dark – latest in a series featuring DSI William Lorimer.

Any thoughts the top cop may have of joining the celebrations and wishing everyone a guid new year are well and truly dashed when he’s called to a house from which (never a good sign) gunshots have been reported.

The carnage he finds there has a profound effect on the policeman, leaving him to question whether he really wants to stay in the murder investigation business.

Meanwhile (making it Lorimer’s Worst Hogmanay Ever) the man who eluded police capture during his last investigation - the Quiet Release case involving the “euthanasia” of vulnerable patients - is back, this time in cahoots with a nasty character from Glasgow’s underworld.

As Lorimer struggles to return to duty and stop this mystery killer once and for all, he discovers that there are people high up in Police Scotland protecting the gangster who holds the key to finding the man they are looking for.

Can Lorimer and his team get a killer off the streets for good before more innocent people die?
