Memory Walk pupils impress Lanark Rotarians

As recently reported in the Gazette, a group of Grammar pupils, headed by Kirkfieldbank pals Eilidh McCreadie and Nicole Baxter, organised a mass sponsored walk around Lanark Loch in aid of an important charity which mostly helps those on the opposite side of the so-called Generation Gap.

Entitled the Memory Walk, the event raised money for Alzheimer Research and was inspired by an aunt of Eilidh’s who has been bravely coping for many years with a husband stricken by the condition.

The effort raised around £2000, the Walk going ahead despite some atrocious weather conditions, Grammar pupils and staff members braving the elements in this great cause.

The Rotary Club of Lanark were particularly proud of this effort as it followed on from an earlier charity fundraiser that Eilidh, Nicole and pal Rebecca Frame carried out as part of a Rotary Challenge Enterprise course they were selected for.

Along with many others from Rotary District 1020, of which Lanark’s club is part, the girls spent a weekend in Stirling Youth Hostel taking part in the Challenge.

Explained Lanark Rotary’s Kevan Carty: “The Challenge is designed to promote entrepreneurial skills among the young and the weekend included some `challenging’ games, talks by leading members of the business world and some interesting business workshops.”
