Milestone for Margaret
Margaret Brown Gray was born as the third of four children of Margaret and Thomas Gray of Toll Street.
After attending Knowetop Primary and Dalziel High she worked in the office of her uncle Robert’s plumbing business, R W Muir Plumbers, in West Hamilton Street.

Hide AdIt was through the business that she met her future husband John Mills who had arrived from Stirling to join the firm.
He served in the army during the Second World War and they were married in Glasgow in 1945.
They set up home in Calder Street and had one son Ian, with the family moving to Viewpark Road in 1953.
Although Margaret stopped working in R W Muir Plumbers, John continued as foreman plumber.

Hide AdAnd following Robert’s retiral in the early 1970s, he took over the running of the business which had moved to Merry Street.
Margaret returned to the office and remained until John’s death in 1997, following which the business closed .
She continued to stay in Viewpark Road until 2003 when she moved to the Abbeyfield Residence in Douglas Street.
Her son Ian (a former teacher at Dalziel High) married Margaret Young, and have given Margaret two granddaughters Kirstin and Roslyn.

Hide AdNot once to shy away from technology Margaret keeps in regular contact with a wide circle of extended family and friends from all over the world using Skype and takes a keen interest in how everyone is faring.
On her birthday she received over 100 cards including one from The Queen.
