Millions invested on Scotrail trains travelling to Lanark

PASSENGERS travelling to and from Lanark Railway Station will benefit from an overall £18 million investment in over 20 ScotRail trains.

The vehicles have been upgraded via significant financial backing from owner Eversholt Rail, with another 21 trains set to be refurbished by 2016.

The works, undertaken by Doncaster-based Wabtec, saw 22 ‘Class 320’ trains get new toilets and doors, two wheelchair bays and footstep lighting.

They are to comply with European standards to improve accessibility for those with reduced mobility by 2020.

Work to refurbish a further 21 ‘Class 318’ trains got underway recently and is expected to take two-and-a-half years to complete. These trains will be repainted, with repairs done to their bodywork.

Steve Montgomery, ScotRail’s managing director, said: “We welcome the work to upgrade these trains and to enhance the overall experience for customers who use them.”
