Milngavie golfers on route to success

Scottish Water made sure plans for Milngavie Golf Club’s recent Senior Open tournament were down to a tee.

As well as donating golf umbrellas as prizes, the company worked with the club to ensure there were no obstacles to competitors taking part.

During the competition, Stockiemuir Road – the most direct route for access to the golf club – was closed for pipe installation works as part of Scottish Water’s ongoing Burncrooks improvement project in the area.

Derek Hunter, a committee member of Milngavie Golf Club, said: “I must admit, when I first heard the road closure would be in place during our tournament I was a bit concerned as golfers travel from all over Scotland to compete.”

However, he added: “Any concerns were quickly allayed and the project team at Scottish Water and its partners Caledonia Water Alliance kept us informed and worked with us in the lead up to our event.

“This meant we could make sure competitors knew to leave more time for their journey and that they were clear about diversions.

“The tournament was a great success with around 100 competitors throwing back their advancing years to take part in what was a most enjoyable day.

“The club very much appreciated the kind donation of umbrellas.”

The road has since re-opened and Jane McKenzie, of Scottish Water, said: “We always do our best to work with communities and find solutions to help keep any disruption or inconvenience to a minimum.”
