Minard Road bus shelter is still up for debate

The Minard Road stop was earmarked for a new bus shelter as part of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Bus Stop Improvement project — but following appeals to Pollokshields councillor Norman MacLeod and MSP Nicola Sturgeon, a consultation has been drawn up to gauge public opinion.

Councillor MacLeod told The Extra: “The view from a number of neighbouring businesses is that if they put a bus shelter in, it will narrow the footpath by so much that it will stop passing trade.”

In a letter to the councillor, a representative of land and environmental services states: “The aim is provide a reliable, safe and high quality bus service that offers a viable alternative to car travel.

“Following initial discussion with the traders on Minard Road, the council received some negative comments and a meeting was held at Langside Hall to discuss the issue further.”

The proposal — which also includes the installation of raised kerbs, resurfacing and replacing a nearby bin — is up for consultation until October 30, and comments are welcomed at [email protected].

Councillor MacLeod added: “I’m pleased that it hasn’t gone ahead immediately and that the powers that be are taking time to ask via a reasonable consultation. Let’s see what the weight of public opinion is — I hope that due attention will be paid.”
