Moodiesburn couple become 200th beneficiaries of ‘building for the future’

A family-of-four have become the 200th tenants to get keys to their brand new council home as part of an ambitious affordable housing project.

Nicola Devlin and Paul Kearns recently moved into their new home at Moodiesburn’s Gartferry Road site, where 50 new family homes have been built by North Lanarkshire Council.

The development is part of the local authority’s ‘Building for the Future’ scheme - which will see £150million invested in building 1,000 new homes by 2020.

The couple are delighted with their new home, which they will share with their two children.

Nicola said: “I would like to thank the council and the builders for doing so a great job. Our new home has really helped improve our lives and is a place we are really proud of.”

Councillor Sam Love, the council’s convener of housing and social work services, said: “I’m delighted that Nicola, Paul and their family are so positive about their new house, and that it meets all their needs.

“We are looking forward to completing more sites and more homes as this programme develops and we continue to invest in improving all our housing stock.”
