Members of the public raised the alarm when the 18-month-old was spotted alone in Albion Street at 8.40 on Sunday evening.

Albion Street is just a short distance from Tobin’s home. It’s alleged that Tobin failed to supervise the toddler who slipped out of the flat.

A second charge states that Tobin shouted, swore and made threatening remarks at his home on Monday this week.

Tobin, represented by solicitor Derek Smith, pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Trial was set for September and he was allowed bail, but Sheriff Allan McKay has ordered him not to be in charge of any child under the age of 16 meantime.
