Mr McClymont believes that the MP for East Renfrewshire is the best man for the job.

Mr Murphy faces opposition from two Lothian-based MSPs, Neil Findlay and
Sarah Boyack.

But Mr McClymont believes Mr Murphy has the edge.

He said ”We are fortunate in the Labour party in Scotland to have three great candidates.

I have chosen to back Jim though because I think the challenges we face to win the backing of the people of Scotland require the experience of a seasoned campaigner.

“Jim has spent 17 years campaigning, representing his constituents and working at the highest levels of Government and has a proven track record of delivery.

“His 100 towns in 100 days tour during the referendum showed his ability to engage with people.

“Jim, along with deputy leadership candidate Kezia Dugdale makes for a great team for the future for Scottish Labour,’’ added Mr McClymont.
