Caskie Kennedy and Oscar Cairns have left for pastures new at Isobel Mair School — and they’re the last of the nursery’s five-year-old pupils, as the facility focuses now on under threes and their families.

Glen Centre staff and family members marked the occasion with a day of celebration — also marking the official opening of the nursery’s new gardens.

Head teacher Deborah Blackhurst explained: “It was an emotional but fabulous day.

“It was a delight to have so many friends and family, old and new, join us to recognise the achievements of Caskie and Oscar and to celebrate the opening of our new gardens, as well as commemorating the life of one of our children who sadly passed away last year.”

With the centre is to be used for younger children with additional support needs, its outdoor space needed to be changed.

The garden makeover follows a complete redesign of the building’s interior last year.

The addition — supported by The Bank of Scotland’s Community Fund with a grant of £2,000 — also has two new names chosen by the children; the Rainbow Garden and Sunshine Garden.

Deborah added: “Many parents and friends came along on the gardening days we organised to help the children dig, plant, paint walls and more. We couldn’t have achieved what we did without their support.

“The council’s education department and committee have also been extremely supportive in understanding the vision for Glen Family Centre and providing resources to enable us to achieve this.”
