The new 73 service, running on a trial basis, over the summer, between Crawford and Lesmahagow will call at Abington, Douglas and Rigside. It will also link up with the X74 service that runs to Glasgow at the Lesmahagow interchange.

David said: “I have campaigned hard on improved transport links for rural areas in South Lanarkshire, and I welcome this announcement from SPT and the Rural Development Trust.

“As use of the trial service is being monitored, I would encourage local residents to use the service to show operating companies the need for greater transport links to the Upper Clyde and Douglas Valleys.

“Even thought I have tried to get the X74 stagecoach service to stop at Douglas, which was refused, this at least is moving in the right direction.”

The new MP made better rural transport links a focal point of his successful election campaign.
