In the past he has taken part in some monstrous food challenges in aid of his Dreammaker Foundation which grants special treats to children with life-limiting illnesses.

Back in 2014 Les devoured a 5lb burger from Taste Budz takeaway in Bellshill and has now teamed up with the Kelvin Road eatery once again for another challenge, but rather than stuffing himself he is aiming to lose weight.

Taste Budz is running a six-week competition offering five participants two free healthy meals a day totalling 900 calories.

Les is up against Lesley Higgins, Claire Gallagher, Lisa McLaughlan and Madeleline Wotherspoon with whoever loses the most weight winning £150 and the runner-up getting £50.

If he wins Les will put the money towards his annual Christmas party that is being held at the Radstone Hotel in Larkhall on Sunday, December 4, from noon-4pm.

Les said: “I have done eating challenges in the past, but recently I have been trying to lose some weight so I am delighted to be teaming up Taste Budz once again.

“I am aiming to lose a stone over the six weeks and I’m confident I can do it, I will be making a trip to New York during the time the competition is running, but I’m sure I can avoid temptation.

“If I win I will be donating the money to the annual Christmas party, the numbers have outgrown Fir Park so we are delighted to be going to the Radstone Hotel for the first time and hopefully the largest premises will mean no children miss out.”

Taste Budz opened three years ago, and in the past year has found moving a healthier menu has boosted business.

Owner Angela Blackwood said: “We have become so much busier since we started offering healthier options which is a sign local people are trying to eat better.

“We would like to wish all the competitors the best of luck in reaching their weight loss goal.”
