New chapter for reference library

A treasure chest of fascinating archives, old photos, historic records, indepth information and reference books is set to reopen to the public next week after a major revamp.

The reference department at William Patrick Library in Kirkintilloch has had a major upgrade and will now offer improved Archives and Local Studies Service.

The facilities on offer to customers in the first floor reference library have been given an overhaul,includingfree wi-fi,laptop charging benches,comfortable seating,large study tables,improved shelving, upgraded desktop PCs, quiet study area and a multimedia screen.

To carry out the work, the first floor of the William Patrick Library has been closed for a few weeks, but it is due to reopen next week.

Scott Hill, chairman of the East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust said: “The new and improved Archives and Local Studies Service will still offer the same high level of service, but in a more modern and comfortable environment that is more conducive for studying.

“Although the surroundings have changed, visitors will still be able to access all of the same wonderful collections and local history material as before.”

Convener of Development and Regeneration, Councillor Alan Moir said: “The Archives and Local Studies Service is a very popular and well-used resource at the William Patrick Library and the much improved facilities are sure to be well-received.

“Hopefully residents who may not have visited the reference library in the past will be tempted in to see what excellent resources are on offer.”
