New council houses finished

The 20 houses in Belvidere Road, which include two specially adapted properties for wheelchair users, are part of the council’s commitment to build over 1,000 new council homes by 2017.

Mossend and Holytown councillors Frank McNally and Jimmy Coyle, and Bellshill councillors Harry Curran and Harry McGuigan visited the site on Monday as new tenants started getting their keys.

Councillor McNally said: “This is a terrific investment and provides much-needed council houses in our area.

“As councillors, our most common constituent enquiry relates to housing. With thousands of people on waiting lists, it is vital we continue to invest in high-quality new council houses across North Lanarkshire.

“I am delighted that, despite deep budget cuts from both the UK and Scottish Governments, this state-of-the-art investment has been completed and the new tenants are moving in.”

Councillor Curran added: “There is a housing crisis in Scotland so I am pleased that North Lanarkshire is continuing to build new council homes for local people.

“I am incredibly impressed by the quality of the new homes at Belvidere and confident we can build on the success of this project and build more council houses in the Bellshill area.”
