New councillor welcomes ‘decisive’ by-election result

The southside ward was one of four contested and the party held onto the other three, as well as taking the former Green seat in Langside following the resignation of councillor Liam Hainey.

The new councillor is Anna Richardson, joining Susan Aitken (SNP) and Archie Graham (Scottish Labour) in representing Langside.

She told The Extra: “I’m delighted that the people of Langside have put their trust in me and the SNP to represent them, with a very decisive election result.

“I intend to listen carefully to the issues that residents tell me are important to them, and to speak up for everyone — especially women and families, who are often under-represented in politics.

“I’m now looking forward to getting down to work alongside my ward colleague, councillor Susan Aitken, who has consistently shown commitment to making our area a better place to live.”

The SNP candidate gained 2,134 votes, followed by Labour’s Eileen Dinning with 932, Green Robert Pollock with 579, Conservative Kyle Thornton with 379, Liberal Democrat Will Millinship with 125, UKIP’s Cailean Mongan with 65 and TUSC candidate Ian Leech with 62.
