New Lanark lass makes charity skydive for wee pal

AS a certain Aussie ‘soap’ theme says, everybody needs good neighbours - and disabled New Lanark lass Clare Turley certainly has one in the form of Tyla Denholm.

As reported in the Gazette, Clare’s mum has been running a campaign to raise £10,000 to create a special sensory playroom for her nine-year-old, a victim of cerebral palsy and a pupil at Lanark’s Stanmore House School.

Now their 15-year-old neighbour in Braxfield Terrace, Tyla, has pledged to go to great lengths to back the fundraising effort - several thousand feet up in the air in fact!

Her dad Alex explained: “Tyla wanted to do something to help raise money for Clare so she has decided that, to ‘celebrate’ her 16th birthday on August 29, she is going to do a sponsored skydive.

“The minimum age to make a skydive is 16 and so she will be doing this on the very first day she can.

“We have been getting sponsor sheets out and about the Lanark area and hope everyone will back her.”
