After four and a half years of work on over £5 million of refurbishments, the ‘rebirth’ of the hall is “now almost complete” according to South Lanarkshire Council.

While full recommissioning won’t be on time for this year’s Lanimer Reception in three weeks, it will mean the hall will be available again for the many local groups and organisations which called it home.

Perhaps most significantly, it means the building can host next year’s commemorations of the centenary of the start of World War One.

As its name suggests, the hall was originally built in the 1920s as the burgh’s official memorial to its 250-plus citizens who gave their lives in that conflict, World War Two’s tally of the lost being added to the foyer’s plaques of Remembrance after 1945.
