New plans to revitalise Lanark unveiled

A NEW three-week arts, music and drama festival in the run-up to Lanimers is one of the first steps to be taken as part of a major recovery plan for Lanark.

On Monday night the town’s Lesser Memorial Hall was packed with business and civic figures to hear details of the Vision for Lanark ‘blueprint’ to boost the town’s fortunes, drawn up via the town’s Community Development Trust.

For the past several months veteran tourism consultant David MacIntyre has been canvassing local opinion on what can be done to improve the Lanark economy.

Two of the short-term measures suggested were holding a three week pre-Lanimer event, “like the Biggar Little Festival – but different” and a two week Lanark Winter Festival, incorporating the existing street market, Late Shopping Night and Taste of Lanark events.

In his presentation, David stressed that it was down to the people of Lanark to make his schemes work to help their town bloom again.
