New pub in appeal for iconic telephone box

The former Antonine Pub in Kirkintilloch, renamed The Lion & Star after the town’s two famous foundries is also still on the lookout for an iconic red telephone box.

The Liion Foundry was famous for producing the distinctive phone boxes.

A spokesperson for Star Pubs & Bars who own the venue, said: “People can apply via the email address [email protected] or via the job centre.”

Posts at the new venue which welcomes its first customers on Wednesday, March 23, range from managers to kitchen staff, cleaners, bar staff and waiting staff. Of these, the firm says 60 per cent will be part-time positions.

Pub operator Stephen Bremner said: ““We’ve named the pub after Kirkintilloch’s foundries, The Lion and The Star, which used to produce the iconic red telephone boxes.

“If anyone has one and is looking for a new home for it, we’d love to hear from you.”

According to its new owners, the interior and exterior of the pub which dates back to the 1970s, has been completely overhauled and turned into a family friendly food pub.

The layout of the pub is being reconfigured to be open plan on one level with a new bar and an area for coffee and drinks.
