New this year, kids open doors

Organisers of Doors Open Days have, for the first time in its 25 year history, introduced more than 40 buildings and events for children – just look for the ‘teddy bear’ icon in the official brochure.

There’s loads to get involved in from creating stained glass windows or puppets to designing an extension or posters, from trying out curling to discovering a WWI trench, and the highlight – getting lost in a straw bale maze.

And, keeping up in the techno age, visitors can take up their journey of architectural discovery by downloading a free audio tour.

“Glasgow’s Landmarks” can be downloaded from glasgowdoorsopenday.com/glasgowlandmarks to find eight historic and very different buildings, from Glasgow School of Art to Clydeport, and from St Andrew’s in the Square to the Necropolis.

Instead of carrying brochures around on the day, a smartphone app can download the brochure to mobile phones and tablets by scanning the clever little QR code from the brochure.

Hook up with some neat navigation software such as Google maps and off you go.
