Newarthill student wins chance to perform on the London stage with historic dance company

Vikki Clark, who is studying HND Dance Artists at Dance Studio Scotland, is among a group of students who have won the chance to perform in a showcase alongside dancers from Rambert at the Peacock Theatre in London’s West End, as the company celebrates its 90th birthday.

The opportunity comes after a panel of Rambert choreographers were impressed by the group when they watched them perform at the Rambert Elements dance exhibition at Edinburgh’s Festival Theatre.

Vikki, a former pupil of Brannock High , said: “We are performing the same piece when we go to London.

“The level of performances from other groups will be of a lot higher standard than when we performed in Edinburgh, and will be the biggest performance any of us have done so far.”

Vikki will gain a taste of performing on a London stage before she moves to the city to continue her education later this year.

She said: “I’ve managed to secure a place in London Studio Centre, so that’s where I’ll be training for the next three years, but I’m not sure yet whether I’ll pursue the contemporary route or go into musical theatre.”

Dance Studio Scotland’s purpose-built facility at Glasgow Clyde College’s Anniesland campus offers a thorough and disciplined four-year professional training programme that prepares students for a variety of careers in the dance industry.

Maxine Railton, senior lecturer at Dance Studio Scotland at Glasgow Clyde College, said: “I’m delighted that the hard work of Vikki, her fellow students, and staff here is being rewarded on such a prestigious platform.

“I think the experience for the students will be amazing. It will be wonderful to be on stage with Rambert dancers, accompanied by the Rambert Orchestra.”
