No generational divide for Armed Forces Day

East Renfrewshire Council is putting the final touches to plans to celebrate the annual Armed Forces Day later this month.

Rouken Glen Park will host events prepared to attract and entertain people across generations on Saturday, June 20.

The rising of the Armed Forces Day flag at the park’s pavilion will start the proceedings.

A military parade of serving and retired servicemen and women with pipe and military bands is planned for 1pm.

Other attractions will include a military display, climbing wall, birds of prey, assault courses, farmers market, craft stalls and even a chance to try your hand at archery.

Vintage military vehicles and costumes will be on show, while the pond will feature military model boats and the 3SIXTY bike display team will perform later in the afternoon.

Visitors will also be treated to performances from the combined Highland and Lowland Regiment Band, Le Dance Studio and special guests, West of Scotland Military Wives Choir throughout the big day.

Armed Forces Day is a national celebration designed to give people the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.
