Number 13 is lucky for some

THE 128th Glasgow Company of Boys’ Brigade has seen 13 of its number achieve the Queen’s Badge award in what is its 75th anniversary in Williamwood parish church in Clarkston.

The Queen’s Badge is the highest award in the Boys’ Brigade badge scheme and to obtain it the boys were required to complete a minimum thirty hours of community service, show leadership by helping with the running of the BB company, learn or develop a new or existing skill as well as attend training courses including a residential weekend course.

And 13 boys is the highest number the company has ever seen obtaining the Queen’s Badge in one year.

The boys were awarded with their badges at a ceremony in Glasgow’s City Chambers in front of their proud parents.

The awards went to sergeants James Armstrong, Alistair Currie, Craig Johnston, Kyle McKenzie, Jason Miller, Andrew Pilkington, Mark Stirton, James Young and corporal Sean Smith, lance corporals Razak Hunter, Graeme King, Matthew Kirkwood and Jordan Spratt.

Company captain Mark Gordon said: “These young men are a credit to the Boys’ Brigade and their families and deserve their awards and the recognition it brings.

“Everyone associated with the 128th are proud to see them succeed. We hope many of them are able to become officers and help the younger boys who follow in their footsteps.”
