OLA pupil paintings are just the ticket

Our Lady Of The Annunciation’s pupils have received a letter of congratulations from Alex Salmond for their art work.

Following the recent exhibition at the Couper Institute Library of their interpretation of Scottish artist Peter Howson’s painting Artaban, the first minister used the original work as his 2013 Christmas card.

He also presented the school with an inscribed copy of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffer, translated into Scots by James Robertson.

Primary six pupils at Our Lady Of The Annunciation Primary took a close look at the painting.

Each pupil was given a small section of the painting to study and paint and then all these sections were put together to create the school’s own collective vision of Artaban.

Mr Salmond had no doubt that the artist Peter Howson would be equally impressed by the talent of the P6 youngsters, and has sent a photograph of their work to the artist himself.

Head teacher Ann Watson said: “We were pleased and delighted that the work of our P6 class has been recognised by the first minister.

“Pupils were thrilled when their work was put on public display — and now it’s amazing that the first minister has endorsed their achievement.”
