Olyvia’s wheely good cycle trip

An eight-year-old Abronhll girl has raised nearly £400 for the Marie Curie hospice at Glasgow’s Stobhill Hospital from a sponsored cycle slog.

Cumbernauld Primary pupil Olyvia Porter cycled nearly 16 miles form her home to the Falkirk Wheel, under her mum Gayle’s supervision, and was later able to hand a cheque for £377 to the hospice.

Friends, relatives and teachers all supported her bid, which she had been planning and organising for months,

Gayle said: “I’m a very proud mum after what she’s managed to achieve.

“She came up with the idea entirely by herself when she was just seven, and we spent some time deciding how best to do it and what charity should benefit.”

She added: “In the end Olyvia chose the Marie Curie hospice, and of course they were delighted to receive a significan sum from someone so young.

“It’s a fair distance to thev Wheel, and for an eight-year-old to manage that is pretty impressive.”

Olyvia now has a taste for fundraising and is already planning her next sponsored effort.
