Carluke on the Run, which this year is in partnerships with the charity, is promising to be bigger and better than ever before with organisers, Carluke Development Trust, reporting record numbers of entries to both the five mile road race and the fun mile races, which will be held at the John Cumming Stadium.

Trust development manager Kathleen Feeney said: “The entries are already well up on last year and traditionally most of the more serious runners usually start entering in the run-up to the race; those entries are also starting to come in.

“The thing we keep saying is that you don’t have to sprint around the course, you can just jog or even walk with friends as a lot of the race would be a lovely country walk off the main road.

“We hope that the weather will be kind to us and that it will be a dry day. This is the first time that the Development Trust has had a charity partner and it’s something that we hope to continue with in the future.”

As well as the backing from thel public, local schools and clubs have offered their support for the event.

These include Hamilton Accies footballer Ali Crawford, Carluke and St Aidan’s High and and Carluke-based Clyde Runners.

On the day itself there will be plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy including bouncy castle, face painting, refreshments, sports mentoring sessions and a chance to find out more about The Beatson Cancer Charity, and the new Lanarkshire Beatson, from the charity’s staff and volunteers.

Kathleen added: “I’ve been absolutely delighted with the level of support we have received from people and organisations within the town.

“The council have been fantastic with us as well in a variety of different ways.”

Carluke on the Run takes place this Sunday, June 7, at the John Cumming Stadium in Carluke.

Registration begins at 9.30am with the first of the fun miles starting shortly after that. The five mile race begins at 11am, and you can register on the day.
